Personal Statement for a joint degree

I am applying for a joint English/Politics degree at my first choice Uni, but just for English at all of my others (some of whom are more exclusive than my first choice). How ought I aim my personal statement so as to give myself the best chance at my first choice Uni without alienating the others? How much (if at all) should I talk about Politics?
