#1
Hi!!
Im hoping to study Forensic Science, and wondered if anyone would be so kind as to take a gander at my PS and give me some feed back
Thanks! x

Ten minutes after reading this personal statement you could be dead. Wouldn’t you want
somebody to solve the mystery of your untimely demise and answer the questions your family and friends would be asking? I’m the person who wants to find those answers. I am deeply fascinated by the process of solving these mysteries through the use of science and law. I like the fact that Forensic Science can bring justice to victims and the families of victims of crime. That in itself will make all the hard work, blood sweat and tears completely worthwhile. Curiosity and enthusiasm are two of my personality traits, always searching for answers to unanswered questions. My natural curiosity and love of science are the main factors that sparked my interest in forensic science. I am not easily shocked and I have the ability to think outside the box, I will bring a creative angle to any cases I work on. I am very much looking forward to learning and experiencing crime scene investigation and working in a laboratory setting.

Currently I am enrolled on the Access to Higher Education Life Sciences course. Some of the skills I have acquired are essay writing skills and note taking skills. I am thoroughly enjoying practical tasks in my specialist subject sessions, recently we have been conducting biochemical food tests and I have enjoyed many aspects of this task. It gave me great satisfaction to know that I had successfully performed this experiment using my own methods. This confirmed to me that I have learned so much already. Later on in the course we will be studying the genetic code, this is something I am very excited about.
To gain experience and additional knowledge I am undertaking work experience in hospital mortuaries, so I can get a realistic view of different professions and observe experienced professionals in a work environment. During my work experience in the mortuary, I was able to observe a post mortem. I was absolutely transfixed, I found every aspect of the procedure interesting. I was also shown some extreme case studies, for example, I saw the body of a man with Situs Inversus, which I found absolutely fascinating. I also learned a bit about policy and procedure when dealing with the deceased and look forward to learning about this more in depth.
Time management is one skill I have gained as I have been balancing a part time job with college studies and home life. I feel this shows good organisational skills and self motivation. I endeavour to meet my deadlines when completing assignments and handing in homework and ensure that it is to a high standard. I have been working in retail since I left school and have met people from all walks of life. I often find myself in difficult situations working with the public, through this I have developed good communication skills and have learned to be calm and diplomatic.

Reading and socialising are my main hobbies. I like to read anything from girlie books to murder mystery. I find it helps me to unwind and let my mind wander and feed my imagination. I love to go out and meet new people and catch up with old friends, I am a family girl at heart and love spending time with my family. I would be an asset to your university because I am a positive, determined person. I am also caring, compassionate, warm and friendly so I would also be an asset to the community. I am excited about expanding my knowledge and confident that I can achieve my goals. When I have completed my degree I aim to work towards an MSc Recovery and Identification of Human Remains.
