My Love of make-up has grown steadily over the past decade. High fashion glossy pages were what originally caught my attention, but after studying Media Make-up in college I have developed a keen interest in Special Effects.
Although I have only touched on the subject briefly, I find it fascinating and I would love to have the opportunity to develop my skills further in University. My ultimate ambition is to work on film and TV sets, and to be able to travel the world doing what I love; Make-up.

When I left school I was unaware of the Media Make-up course so I choose to study I.C.T- another subject I find interesting. While I was studying I.C.T I heard about the Media Make-up course, and applied to start once my I.C.T course had finished. I was delighted when I was accepted onto the course. I was pleased to discover that Art and Hairdressing were part of the course.

Art has always been part of my life as my Nan is an artist, and when I got the opportunity at school to study art GCSE I didn’t hesitate and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoy being able to put my hair and make-up ideas onto mood boards, and making 3-D objects/props to use with my final pieces.

Although I would like to expand my knowledge mainly in Special effects, I do have a passion for beauty and fashion. I was lucky to be given the opportunity to become a Virgin Vie representative whilst studying. This involved familiarising myself with all their products and selling them. I would give the host a free make-over, and give advice to other attendees on how to apply make-up. I was often asked to do makeovers on other guests. Other work experience involves working on the beauty counter at Boots, and I regularly get requests from friends and family when they are going somewhere special.

I started working at the age of 15, while I was study for my GCSE’s and worked through both of my college courses to support myself, and it enabled me to purchase materials for both courses. Its been 2 years since I finished my college course and during this time I have been in full time employment. I feel I have matured greatly and I am now accustomed to working under the pressure’s of deadlines. Working has helped me gain a more serious attitude towards studying and I feel I am now ready to apply myself completely.

I am really looking forward to University, I am eager for the opportunity to develop my skills. I have a real passion in Make-up, and I am determined to succeed in this industry.
