Music Technology personal statement! - harrywright88 - 13/10/2006

Hi, wondered if anyone could give some useful comments or tips on my personal statement as im having a bit of trouble perfecting it!

Thanks..

I am fascinated by different styles of music and developed a keen interest in how music is produced and the technology involved.

I studied electronics GCSE and gained an A grade, and have gone on to design my own guitar effects pedal and hi-fi amplifier.  Taking into account my interest of both music and electronic engineering I chose to study Music Technology, Physics, Maths and English at A level. I would like to use analytical and creative skills gained from my English studies, combined with practical and conscientious thinking learnt from Physics and Mathematics along with musical skills when studying at a higher level

My A-level studies have given me the access and opportunity to use professional studio musicians and equipment.  I have made full use of all equipment I had access to both in my spare time and as part of the Music Technology curriculum.

Both in college and out I have also gained knowledge and skills in the use of computer digital audio workstations and the software they use, including Steinberg Cubase SX3 and Wavelab, Ableton Live, Apple Logic, Propellerhead Reason and ReCycle, FL Studio and Sibelius.

I enjoy reading biographical and modern literature, including classic modern literature such as the works of Williams Burroughs, Irvine Welsh and J.G Ballard.  I study the guitar and bass guitar, for 5 and 4 years respectively and have had the opportunity to play and record with bands in the past.  I have keyboard skills gained from formal piano tuition, which prove very useful for inputting midi into programs such as Cubase and Reason.

I enjoy skiing and snowboarding, which I have had the opportunity to pursue in Austria and La Plagne – France.  I also have a keen interest in surfing, which I developed from trips to Cornwall.  I hope to continue my interest in these sports while at university and explore other activities.

In conclusion, I believe that my sincere interest and passion for music, the ways in which it is produced and experience in recording make Music Technology a perfect choice for me. I look forward to having the chance to study at a higher level and to expand my knowledge and understanding in this area, as well as gaining the experience of independent life as a student.

Contribution in many extra curricular activities has also been untaken, in events such as voluntarily helping out on open evenings for the school, joining the school swing band as a bass guitarist
